Mesa College Peace Trail
May 4, 2025
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
UPDATE 2pm Sunday: It looks like the rain has cleared away. We plan to go forward with the meditation and nature walk (bring a jacket) and may do the rock painting and watercolor painting in the quad area, which is covered. So far, it still seems like a fine afternoon to be outside–just need some layers! (Please note there are no restrooms available.) Hope to see you there!
Join us for a free, fun 90-minute outdoor session on Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. The location is the Mesa College Peace Trail located adjacent to Mesa College in San Diego, For directions, set destination exactly as “Mesa College Nature Trail South Trailhead.” This is on Mesa College Circle at the south side of the campus. See specific driving directions below.
“When life is really a question,
The answer can be found
In the natural beauty
Of Mother Earth.”
–Sri Chinmoy
About the Listen to Nature Outdoor Meditation Series
This free outdoor series is inspired by the book Listen to Nature by Sri Chinmoy (with foreword by Jane Goodall).
Each session features guided meditation, an active (but non-strenuous) nature walk and a fun nature-oriented activity.
Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mesa College Peace Trail…
Here’s what we’ll do:
- A brief guided meditation from Listen to Nature by Sri Chinmoy
- Nature walk along the trail, which has been created over many years by dedicated volunteers (and is still being expanded and enhanced)
- Rock painting under the direction of Trail Founder Ron Sandvick. Paints will be provided and you’re encouraged to express your “joy-peace-artwork” in the areas along the trail known as Dream Stones and Gratitude Rock. Ron’s vision to inspire future hikers, families and kids, and runners to find their inner peace and bring forward their inner smile.
- In addition–or as an alternative–some people may want to do watercolor painting on cards (this will be done at the trailhead).
Tips for an enjoyable excursion:
- Allow enough time to find the location and park (on Sunday, there’s usually ample parking in the head-in spots along Mesa College Circle).
- Please bring your own water (and snacks if you need them).
- The weather forecast is for relatively cool temperatures (60’s). Please dress accordingly (layers always recommended), and bring a hat. If it rains, we will move to the Quad area for the activities.
- You’ll be sitting on the dirt trail so please plan on getting a little dusty.
Directions: The south trailhead is located on Mesa College Circle on the south side of the campus. This is across from the Admin bldg and a parking lot marked Faculty/Staff. If using Apple/Google Maps, type in “Mesa College Nature Trail South Trailhead.” The map below approximates this but is not exact. Some of us will be at the South Trailhead early to help people find it. (Note that if you see the wooden Peace Trail sign at the Marlesta entrance to the campus, this is not the correct trailhead–go about 1/2 mile south along Mesa College Circle.) There’s head-in parking along adjacent to the trail.

How will you benefit from participation in the Listen to Nature series?
These meditation exercises and the collective outdoor experience can strengthen our ability to live in harmony with ourselves, each other, and the natural world. You’ll learn helpful techniques for stress management, habit change, and spiritual contentment. Plus, you’ll get a great dose of fresh air! The companion book (Listen to Nature by Sri Chinmoy) encourages spending time in nature and is an illuminating and ultimately hopeful guide for taking a spiritual approach to challenges that affect all humanity–such as the environmental crisis and divisive worldviews.
About the Instructors
The Listen to Nature meditation series draws from the book of the same name–an anthology of Sri Chinmoy’s prose and poetry on nature and humanity’s collective responsibility to respect Mother Earth. The various meditation exercises, activities and reflection questions featured in the class series also derive from other spiritual writings by Sri Chinmoy. The creator of the course is Vasudha Deming, a meditation instructor, learning designer, and founder of Noble Learning. Other experienced meditation instructors will also lead some of these sessions.
